Round 5 July 22nd

The day started with Pee Wee racing, and everything was going great……UNTIL the monsoon hit right between first and second motos. Amazingly, we ran the second motos and the track dried up quite well for the evening’s pit bike event. As the pit bike practice was under way, riders expressed how great the track conditions were, just as the thunder and lightning began for monsoon number two. With Rich Schmidt scheduling all the races this year on rain-dates, we have no choice but to ride in the mud. Finally after all that rain, and my daughters bombing Ben Firestone with water balloons, it was time to race. We ran a one moto format and I don’t think we could pay guys to go out for a second. First moto, 16+ 50cc mod, Joel Dengler and Dakota Kessler battled it out until Dengler bike takes on water. Kessler takes the win followed by Barry Goodwin who hangs onto the points lead over Kessler by only one. Keith Pierce takes the win in the 7-11 50cc mod as he try's to close on point leader Brian Rugglero. Tommy Ulikowski leads the first lap of the 16+ 50cc stock as Jeff Roma inherits the lead when Ulikowski goes off the track. Then Roma become another water victim along with point leader Barry Goodwin. Ulikowski retakes the lead and moto win, followed by Austin and Richtmyer. With Ulikowski’s win and Goodwin’s misfortune, these two are now tied for the points lead. Where did new comer Jared Ewart come from? Winning and beating the top contenders in the 16+ midsize class. Nice ride Ewart but you have been missing all the fun. We thought Kessler was unstoppable with a perfect season in the 16+ 50cc open, but who thought it would be a wet filter that would end his streak? Dengler takes the win just as his rear-wheel explodes at the finish line! Roma takes second while Joshua Sheffer has a great ride for third. The tightest point battle has to go to the 16+ open 150. Nils Tribus takes the win and the points lead over Dave Farmer and Rich Crouse with just one point between these three riders. Joshua Sheffer was successful keeping his Xtreme dry as he tried to catch Roma in the 16+50cc dash, Sheffer closes on Roma on the last straight when Roma’s shock gives out and Sheffer takes the cash. Well we have a month to dry these bikes out so lets hope for better weather for round six on August 26th.

                                                See you then, George Trapani
